There passed away at Havelock on Monday, the- 17th inst., Mr Richard Hutchinson, who had been a resident of the Pelorus district for over fifty yeurs. His father, who owned and sailed the schooner Ada which traded to Havelock at the time .of the Wakamarina rush, bought and became licensee of the old Miners'' Arms Hotel, which was burned down about 1876, the present Masonic Hotel being built on the site. Mr Richard Hutchinson later bought a property at Wakarita Bay, where he resided and reared a numerous family. He had, four sons at the front, all of whom returned to New Zealand after peace was proclaimed. The eldest son purchased the Wakarita property from his father quite recenty, and the deceased bought a property formerly owned by his father in Havelock, and took up his resididence there. He and his wife had arranged to proceed to Nelson by Monday's car, and Mr Hutchinson went into the Commercial Hotel to arrange for seats on the car when he was stricken with heart failure and died almost immediately. He leaves a widow,six sons. and four daughters, all the latter being married.
