Buried St. Winifred"s churchyard, Manaton The earliest recorded owner of Deal farm was a John Pethybridge in 1780. Either this John or his father seems to have been the owner of several farms in Manaton, and in 1800 was paying taxes on Water, Manaton Lea and Hills, Vogwell and Heathercombe. He also rented North and South-Middle Challacombe. His last recorded tax was £1 10s 4d in 1830. John had purchased Vogwell in 1800 and resided there. The property was left to his son Thomas. John died aged 88 years and 11 months. His will dated 1846 was proved in 1847.
John married Elizabeth HEYWARD, daughter of William HEYWARD and Margery, on 30 Jun 1785 in St Winifred's,Manaton,,Devonshire,England.
