bullet  General Notes:

Leveran was the old Cornish way of writing Kevern and has been welldocumented.

The Parish Register at St Buryan is almost impossible to decipheraccurately as it is overcrowded, faded and cross written in places. Thishas led to some confusion by various researchers, and not without reason.
The compiler has chosen to use the work that Madeleine Mitchell-Fox didon deciphering the early entries because this descendant of KevernTrewavas actually read the original copy of the register personally.
Other researchers state Kevern was born November 1687.

BIRTH

there is no record of the baptism of Kevern at Paul, but the followingbaptisms were found at neighbouring St Buryan:

C 8Aug1686 John s George & Margery TREWAVAS
C Nov1687 Leveran s George & Bene TREWAVAS

preceded by the marriage of George to Joan 12Jul1684

A booklet by Madeline Mitchell-Fox claims that Laveran was an oldspelling for the place name Kevern (quoting Guide to Cornish Placenames”by Morton Nance). This author also notes that the Leveran baptism wasrecorded at Paul 31Nov1693

The St Burian registers have not yet been examined, but at present itseems likely that Margery, Bene, Joan, are one and the same, and that thefamily moved from St Burian to Paul around 1690. Both John &Leveran/Kevern baptised families at Paul, both including a son George

The link between the two parisges is supported by the first clearTrewavas entry in the Paul register:

C 31Jul1656 John s Willi TREWAVAS of Burian
