bullet  General Notes:

[Nelson Moorhouse ftw.FTW]

Lloyd lived his younger years on the family farm at the end of ChampionRd. Richmond. The farm took in most of the Richmond Hills from ChampionRd. along to Ranzau Rd, and included 750 acres in German Gully whichdrains into the Roding.
From an early age he showed an interest in things mechanical, and as aboy invented dozens of trolleys which he would race down the hill inupper Champion Rd.
He was educated at Waimea College and took up surveying for the Lands &Deeds Dept. for several years until the surveying side of the departmentwas privatised.
After marrying he lived in Ranzau Rd. and began converting vehicles to4 wheel-drive as a hobby. This satisfied his urge to do thingsmechanical, but soon developed into a business. During this period hebuilt numerous specialised 4-wheel drive vehicles, such as cab-overland-rovers for DOC to use on Farewell Spit, and Converted several Jumbovans to 4-wheel drive for Tourist tour operators in Queenstown using theSkippers Canyon route.
With the assistance of his father and father-in-law he bought the oldWaimea Motors garage when it became just a petrol station, but soonoutgrew this.
Shifting onto a new site on the opposite side of Gladstone Road, he builta large workshop and started Lloyd Heslop Motors which services trucksand carries out Truck salvage work. Still needing more room he purchasedTrinder's old workshop when they moved further along Gladstone Rd. anduses this for engineering. Currently, Lloyd has purchased the oldFreezing works site on Main Rd Stoke and intends to shift his wholeoperation there into new premises by 2002-3.[Nelson Moorhouse ftw.FTW]
