CORONER'S INQUEST.
An inquest was held at Dovedale on Saturday afternoon, before Dr. Boor, the coroner, and a jury, on the body of Albert Ah Lina Hocton, when the following evidence was given Appo Lewis Hocton: l am the son of Appo Hocton, and am thirteen years of age. I was out high road with my brother Albert on Thursday evening.Tbe road ia about 50 yards from my father's house. 1 saw some rabbits running about. My brother Albert went into the house with me to get the gun, which was kept loaded. We went out together and he gave me the gun to carry. My father and mother were in the garden, and saw us go on to the road. I heard mother tell father to take the gun from us. Just as we got to the road I saw a rabbit. I told my brother to stand still while I fired. .He was standing to my right, and about twenty feet in advance of me. I fired at the rabbit, and just as I pulled the trigger Albert started to run, and when the smoke cleared away I saw him lying on the ground on his back with a large wound in his forehead. My father, mother, and sister then came up. Appo Hocton: I was in the garden on thursday afternoon, when my wife called out to me that the boys had taken out the gun. I waited about a minute, and then went towards the road, intending to take the gun. away. As I was going I heard a shot fired, and then a scream. I could not see them for bushes in the way. When I got on to the road I saw my son Appo kneeling on the ground holdiug Albert's bead. Albert was lying on the ground dead, having a large wound, the size of my hand, on the left side of the head, through which the brain was exposed. Appo exclaimed, Oh, I have killed my brother, I could not help it." The boys have used the gun before, and have been out together shooting. I have cautioned them not to take the gun, but have not always been able to prevent them. I kept the gun loaded in the house and within their reach. I feel sure that Albert's death was purely accidental. A verdict was returned of accidental homicide.
