Landed at Lyttleton on the Isabella Hercus at the age of 19. he was listed as a Butchers Labourer. Finding that his line of work was either unavailable or unsatisfactory, he moved to Nelson where he purchased land at Waimea west before moving with his wife Mary and children to become pioneer farmers in the Takaka district.
Edward married Mary Ogilvy MOORE, daughter of William MOORE and Isabell LOUDON, on 24 Dec 1855 in Takaka, Golden Bay, Nelson, New Zealand.
