Her family moved to Mutueka in 1862, and stayed in the White Swan Hotel, before moving on to the Sportsmans Arms Hotel. Dan Talbot, her oldest brother, took over the Swan Hotel. Her father started a brewery in Pah Street, but died from scalding when he fell in to a boiling brew vat. She was Married by the Rev. Samuel Poole in Motueka in 1878, and the marrage was witnessed by William Boyce and Carla Fowler. Information on this individual was partly provided by Thelma Rowell of Mutueka, who attended the 1972 reunion and holds the 'family history' book as a work in progress, during correspondence via letters and email between 1997 and 2002 inclusive.
