On the 1871 census for Portsea (Folio 45 Page 25 Schedule 117) out of the 8 dwellings in Highland Street and Kensington Terrace all of the 8 are connected with the Royal Marine Artillery, either as the main residence of the Marine or of his wife and family as he was away.
In 1881 Elizabeth was living with her unmarried daughter Mary Jane. Both were laundresses.
