He was living in Neilston Parish with his second wife Elizabeth Dalgleish two step-children and five children of his own by his first marriage to Annie Reid. He had moved about a lot, his family on the Census return had been born in Glasgow (2), New Kilpatrick, Linlithgow and back in Glasgow again. Also child born Old Kilpatrick Parish, 452/12/27.
