Shared the land at Cuillaghan with his father Thomas in the Tithe records of the 1820s. The Tithe returns for Cuillaghan in 1827 show that Daniels name was on the lease with his father Thomas. In the Griffiths valuation of 1856 Daniel had moved to Drummany Glebe. After his death land improvements were carried out at Drummany Glebe in the name of his sons Edward and Jacob Kells. These were dated 11875, 1878, 1883.. It is not known how many of Daniel and Mattie's family were born at Cuillaghan and Drummany Glebe as the dates of moving are not known. Known as Dan the Grinder because he had a small Mill. He sold flour in Ballyconnell. He eventually settled at Drummany Glebe. There were at least 6 children in Daniels family.
