Rev Walter THEOBALD 533
General Notes: Had been previously married. Children from previous marriage were-- Harold, Frank, Jean, Merle, Nancie. The Methodist:- 21st November 1942. The late Rev. Walter Theobald. Early on Sunday morning last the Rev. Walter Theobald passed away at his home, 438 Mowbray Road, Lane Cove. The funeral service was held in the South Chatswood Church on Monday afternoon at 2.30. The President of the Conference (Rev.T.M.Taylor, B.A.)conducted the service, and was assisted by the circuit superintendent (Rev.W.N.Lock, M.A., B.D., Dip Ed), The Rev A.Collins, a friend of many years standing. The President spoke briefly of the Faithful and gracious ministry Mr Theobald had exercised for thirty seven years, and conveyed the heartfelt sympathy of our Methodist people to Mrs Theobald and members of the family. The Rev. Archibald Collins, speaking out of an intimate knowledge of our departed brother paid the chief tribute to him, and a fitting and beautiful tribute it was. Entirely devoid of all flattery, it neverless showed clear insight into, and a hearty appreciation of the mental and moral qualities of one of the gentlest, kindliest and most brotherly ministers we have had among us. Even if it were possible to reproduce it here in full (which it is not) it would be quite impossible to transfer to the printed page the warmth of feeling from which it sprang and the divine tenderness which ran through it. Walter Theobald entered the ministry in 1905. That ministry was exercised for the greater part in the country circuits. That was where he loved to be, for born and reared in the country, he loved it's open spaces and it's freedom. A country circuit and a good horse with which to work, it was entirely to his liking, for he was never ambitious for the city. Walter married Olive LONSDALE, daughter of Edmund James LONSDALE and Mary Ann LAMBERT, in 1925 in Burwood,New South Wales,Australia.551 (Olive LONSDALE was born on 2 May 1876 in Armidale,New South Wales,Australia. 553, christened on 4 Jul 1876 in Methodist Church,Armidale,New South Wales,Australia,554 died on 5 Jul 1963 in Lane Cove,New South Wales,Australia 555 and was buried in Northern Suburbs Crematorium,Sydney,New South Wales,Australia.) |
