bullet  General Notes:

We have this week to record, with sincere regret, the decease of Mr. Burt, the Artist. During his residence in this town, which commenced nearly twelve years ago, he conciliated the respect and esteem of all who knew him: as an artist, he introduced among us a new style of portrait painting, and in his familiar and domestic sketches, was generally successful. For many years past, he has had to struggle, while laboriously pursuing his profession, with repeated attackes of severe indisposition : his sufferings did not, however, diminish his kindness of heart, or evercome that christian meekness of disposition, which ever distinguished him. The specimens of his art, which he has left among us, whilst associating themselves with the affection borne to the objects they represent, will in very many cases, we are sure , derive additional value as cherished memorials of the artist and friend. -- Reading Mercury.1842
Albin Roberts Burt was an engraver and portrait-painter, commenced life as an engraver, and was a pupil of Robert Thew and Benjamin Smith, but finding himself unable to excel in this department, he took to painting heads
.The royal Academy Exhibitors,1807, Albin Roberts Burt was described as a painter 20 High Street, Bloomsbury. I don't know if this was his address at some stage or the address of the exhibition. Also in 1830, 398 Oxford Street,Number 968, Portrait of a Lady.
He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1830, and died at Reading on 18 March 1842. According to Redgrave, his mother had known the celebrated Lady Hamilton when a barefooted girl in Wales, and he produced a print representing her as 'Britannia unveiling the bust of Nelson.' see Redgrave's Dictionary of Artists, 1878.
