MR. R. F. HAYBITTLE
The death occurred on Sunday last of Mr. Richard Frederick Haybittle, one of Feilding's best-known residents. Mr. Haybittle, who was born in Wellington eighty-one years ago, enjoyed the distinction of being the oldest active bandsman in New Zealand, having been a member of bands for seventy-five years..
Mr. Haybittle, who had lived for the last forty-seven years in Feilding, took a prominent part in the activities of the town. He served on the Borough Council and was also associated with the Feilding Fire Brigade, of which he was an ex-captain. He was choirmaster for a number of years at the Wesleyan Church, and, as an accountant and secretary was at different times secretary of the Rangitikei Club, the Feilding Masonic Lodge, and, up to his death, the Feilding Foresters' Lodge. His wife predeceased him some thirteen years ago, arid he is survived by six daughters and four sons.
