Abel Strickland died without a will ca 1801 in Franklin County, North Carolina. Probate named his widow Nancy, five sons (Kinsman, Kindred, Kinsbird, Kinnuell, and Kinnard) and two daughters, Milbrey and _____.
Our ancestor, Kindred, married Tempy Reaves in Wake County, NC in 1811. They moved to Greene County, Alabama in 1826, then on to Pickens County, Alabama in 1828. Kindred and Tempy joined Unity Baptist Church near Olney in 1839 and were issued Letters of Dismission in 1841. They settled near Gordo, Alabama and Kindred donated land for the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery where many Stricklands are buried.
Before they moved to Gordo, their oldest daughter, Mary, married our GGF Richard Sanders who lived near Olney. Mary died during the war and we believe she is buried in Unity Cemetery in an unmarked grave near her husband’s mother and two brothers, who died in 1852. We were furnished names of their ten children by Lillian Strickland Matthews ( a Harkney descendent) and finally, on our third trip to Pickens County, we found the probate record of Kindred’s death in 1868 that proved her family record.

Kindred Strickland, was born 6 Jun 1788 in North Carolina and died 24 Jul 1868 at Gordo in Pickens County, AL. He married Tempy Reaves 5 Jan 18ll in Wake County NC. She was born 27 May 1790 in North Carolina and died 9 Jul 1864. Both are buried in Mt Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery near Gordo AL.
