The Caretaker Role

Initiation

In the late 1970s Mrs Edmonds expressed a wish that her family history documents be passed to a family member who would be prepared to do something more than simply preserve them for posterity. She chose to look outside her immediate family, and asked a niece for advice. Following a round of letters, the son of one of her nieces was nominated as a volunteer, and was accepted.

The documentation that duly arrived in the mail consisted of her original, typewritten Robert Kirkwood Genealogy, her copy of the original Robert Cooper Genealogy, and a few photographs. Soon after it was received the details were entered into a computer system, and this has since been regularly updated from a variety of sources.

No new research has been undertaken, and no new information has been obtained about some branches of the family. It is hoped that the use of the internet will improve the level of contact between interested parties without the expenditure of substantial amounts of time or money.

Further Research

With the growth of interest in family history, and the increasing use of the internet by families from all walks of life, it is likely that persons who are researching their own family tree will discover or explore a connection to the Robert Kirkwood Genealogy. If you are one of these, please do not assume that the caretaker of the genealogy already knows of any source material that you acquire, but take the time to share your knowledge for the ultimate benefit of all interested parties.
