Many genealogists will be glad to learn that Augusta B. Fothergill’s classic book, MARRIAGE RECORDS OF BRUNSWICK COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1730-1852, has been reprinted. Created from Prince George County in 1720, Brunswick received land from parts of Isle of Wight and Surry counties in 1732. Sharing a border with North Carolina, Brunswick served as a gateway for numerous settlers who migrated south.

Besides presenting the data found in the marriage records or bonds, Fothergill expanded the basic list by including inferential marriages extracted from deeds, wills, and estate settlements. Her composite of materials furnishes information concerning more than 3,000 marriages.

In addition to the names of the couples and the dates of the documents, she includes all references to names of guardians, sureties, parents, or places of residence. As a result, her work identifies approximately 7,500 individuals. Family researchers with ties to this area of the Old Dominion State will want to have a copy of MARRIAGE RECORDS OF BRUNSWICK COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1730-1852.

The 153-page book has soft covers and a foreword. The compiler arranged the records alphabetically by the names of the grooms. Names of the brides are indexed. To the book's price of $19.50, buyers should add the cost for postage and handling charges. For U. S. postal mail, the cost is $5.50 for one book and $2.50 for each additional copy; for FedEx ground service, the cost is $7.50 for one copy and $2.50 for each additional book. The volume (item order 1985) may be purchased by check, money order, MasterCard, or Visa from Clearfield Company, 3600 Clipper Mill Rd., Suite 260, Baltimore, Maryland 21211-1953. For phone orders, call toll free 1-800-296-6687; fax 1-410-752-8492; website www.genealogical.com.

Now we conclude the list of names on the “Honor Roll of Cousins” in column 7, page 7 of the 27 April 1906 issue of the Dallas Semi-Weekly Farm News. This roster furnishes the names of individuals and their place of residence, which may be a community instead of a town.
