PAUL E. MEYER

From "The Tulsa World," Friday, February 11, 2005

MEYER -- Paul E., Bixby, OK. Born February 22, 1923, in Ft. Wayne, IN, to Paul F. and Mildred Saupert Meyer, peacefully left a loving family and many friends on February 7, 2005. He is survived by: his wife, Mary Jane, whom he married in 1945; his son, Dustin and wife Nancy; daughter, Peggy; son-in-law, JR Brown and grand-son, James Paul (Jimmy) Brown. Daughter, Paula Brown preceded him in death. His sister, Betty Strombeck, Wolcottville, IN, and brother Robert Meyer, New Haven, IN, are also missing him. Paul was a man of many talents. Flying was his passion. His one regret was the he couldn't someday fly into space. He was only 19 years old when he received his pilot's wings and immediately left with the 5th Air Force, where he spent 3 years in the Asia-Pacific Theater. Paul was a proud member of the Sgt. Pilots, a unique group of enlisted pilots who soon became decorated, commissioned officers. After the war and marriage, his next step was getting an engineering degree from Curtis-Wright Institute in Chicago. He moved to Tulsa in 1947 with a job at National Tank Company. That job lasted for 38 years and included 13 years in Cody, WY, 5 years in Singapore and many years of traveling and working all over the world. After retirement (which he really didn't do) he built an Ultra Lite, took a balloon ride that was fantistic, did some consulting, some structural inspections and became a member of the McCullough Lions Club. The happiest hours were spent in the garage workshop turning out most anything he was asked to do. Paul felt that if you want to leave footprints in the sands of time, you should wear work shoes. And he did. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Floral Haven, 252-2518.
