
Eight Oklahoma servicemen died during the first year of the war in Iraq, along with one soldier with close ties to the state and a civilian University of Tulsa Law School graduate. (See "OKLAHOMANS")
President Bush announced the start of the war one year ago Friday.
Following is a chronology on the deaths of the Oklahomans in the war.

NOV. 2: Sgt. Ross Pennanen of Shawnee (Ok.), 36, was one of four Fort Sill soldiers killed when a CH-47 helicopter was shot down.
The attack killed a total of 16 soldiers and injured 20, the Army said.
Pennanen was born in Tulsa was a graduate of McLoud High School in Pottawatomie County and had worked at a factory in Shawnee. His mother resides in Ada and his father in Oklahoma City.
He was assigned to the 5th Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Sill.
