La Jolla Shores & La Jolla Cove California

MaryCarol & Fred - we may look in our late 60's but this day we were 16 again.

Our Valentine gift to each other - a morning visit to La Jolla Shores and Cove. - definitely a "Bucket List" thing to do. As we drove into the almost full parking lot we felt like VIP's as we parked a few steps to the beach, next to a bench - handicap parking is great!! We sat on the bench and watched all the surfers out at 9am on a Sat morning and we fed the begging birds crackers - they were a hoot, would catch the crumbs in mid-air!  We grew up on this beach from babies to adults. Breathing in the cool ocean air took us back to our summetime youth -  the beach parties, the campfires, the jumping of waves & swimming, the exploring around Scripps Pier for seahorses, starfish, etc., Fred learned to surf here, the running of the grunion fish, the walks along the waters edge, the popping of the seaweed bulbs, the sumbathing & sunburns, a few jellyfish, the stinky smell of seawood, watching Fred's beer disapear over the horizon on the outgoing tide in a bed of seaweed.

Finding the sand packed hard, I decided to hobble out to the water - put my foot in it and popped a seaweed bulb just for old times sake. Happy memories, a happy day!

This guy was a little greedy - he would catch the cracker pieces in the air!

After La Jolla Shores we drove around to La Jolla Cove & Caves - a fantastic grassy park and ocean. Again we got the VIP parking (see white van) - plenty of benches around the water area - No sea lions on the rocks today - there were people without wet suits, going into water and swimming - we watched one man swim across to La Jolla Shores.
