Dresden Enterprise:April 7, 1933
Meridian. George Drewry, 26 year old son of Harve and Nannie Drewry
died at an early hour Sunday, March 26, after many months of suffering.
George had to give up a good position and came back to his good home, where
he was so tenderly cared for by loved ones and good doctors. He was buried
at Meridian where Allen Sharp made a nice talk.
OBITUARY
George Washington Drewry was born May 8, 1906; died Sunday March
26,1933; age 26 years, 10 months, eight days. Though he was not connected
with the church as a member, he attended the Cumberland Presbyterian church
in early life at Meridian and the family feels sure that in his last
days of suffering that God was ever present with him and he felt safe in
His keeping. On Sunday, March 26, just as the world was stirring to life
for a new day, God saw fit to take one from among us and as a flower that
springs up and givesits beauty to the world, then is suddenly cut down.
Thus God reached out his hand and took form us one, though he had
grown tired with bodily suffering, had tunred his face to a land that is
fairer than this, where sickness and pain are no more and as the poet,
Bryant, has said, μHe wrapped the drapery of his couch about him and lies
down to pleasant dreams.ξ He met the duties that came his way with a cheerful
hand and served as a comrade to his fellow-man.He leaves to mourn his going
his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Drewry, three sisters, Mrs. May
Swindell, Mrs. Grace Rogers, Mrs. Elsie Perry, and four brothers, Wayne
A. Drewry, of Maxwell Field, Montgomery , Ala; Willard John Drewry, Memphis;
Flag Allen Drewry, of San Francisco, Calif.; and Herman I. Drewry, also
of Memphis, with a host of relatives and friends.Services were held from
Meridian Monday at 2:30 p. m. with a fitting tribute paid to the life of
the deceased in a beautiful talk by Mr. Allen Sharp. Internment at Meridian
cemetery, Brasfield, Maness and Williams in charge.
