![]() Letterman General Hospital, Presidio of San Francisco, Calif. abt 1933 By 1918, Letterman Hospital was
the Army's largest general hospital, and added a School of Nursing.
Letterman cared for many of the wounded returning from Europe during
World War I. Staff physicians developed orthopedic devices including
the Letterman Leg, and also pioneered the field of physical therapy. - Golden Gate Bridge built 1933-1937 allowed
easier access.

Flag A. Drewry, 4th Infantry, Letterman General Hospital, Presidio of San Francisco, California. For prompt compliance and return of all papers through this headquarters. March 17, 1933 from Quartermaster - Ft. George Wright, Washington - To: Lieut. F. A. Drewry, Letterman General Hospital, Presidio of the San Francisco, California Dear Drewry: Your letter dated the 13th is at hand and I was very glad indeed to hear from you. If you decide to make your home in San Antonio or immediate vicinity I can see no reason why your Household Goods cannot be shipped care of Quartermaster, Fort Sam Houston - upon receipt of your orders. A copy of list of Household Goods inclosed herewith as requested in your letter. Instructions for knocking and crating your trailer were received all O.K. As soon as you receive orders please furnish this office with four (4) copies of same, together with three (3) signed copies of inclosed form 219. Regards to all the family. Yours, sincerely, M. L. Household Goods list at Fort George Wright, Washington
Attached to letter dated March 17, 1933, written by Quartermaster to
Lieut. Drewry at Letterman Hospital San Francisco, Calif. It appears
that Flag and family never returned to Washington - their household
goods were shipped back to Fort Sam Houston -I am assuming by ship
again - those household goods sure had a long roundtrip voyage! There
is no record of how the family returned to San Antonio, Texas. It
appears he had the trailer shipped, maybe they just drove back? This
was a devastating time for Flag.6,377 pounds total + trailer not yet crated - weight unknown.
