My Inheiritance - The little Stove

I never thought that I would ever see this little stove again. Although the house was almost totally empty (everything sold or given away) in the dinning room was one piece of furniture left - the buffet. And sitting in the middle of it was the old cast iron stove I used to play with for hours on end in my grandmother's "orchard" of plum & apricot trees. One of the few happy times of my young life was playing with this stove. When I was about 8 or 9 yrs old, my grandmother put the stove in a paper bag and told my mother that since I loved it so much to take it home so I could play with it more often. That never happened. Mother took it, put it on a garage shelf and told me to never touch it again....it was HERS. My grandmother had hauled that little stove across the country during many moves, saving it for a granddaughter.  I feel her hand in wanting me to have it....finally. As a grandmother myself, I can feel the joy it must have given my grandmother to watch me play with it.

I lived here from 1947 to Dec 8, 1961 when we were married. Dad built the stone rock flower beds around the house - hauling the stones one car load at a time from some place free - the original house was white stucco with a wood shake roof. House had living room, dinning room, small kitchen, hallway, bathroom, 2 bedrooms and garage. In the 1950's Dad built a big covered concrete patio in back yard. In late 1960's an addition was added in back making a MBR with big bathroom (from old 2nd BR) and a family room. It now had 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, family room, living room, dinning room, kitchen, patio & garage. Today the only grass is in the front yard, the rest is cement or flower beds.

There used to be two palm trees in walkway next to the street with flower bed of geraniums around each tree.

Apartment House we lived in from 1962 to leaving S.D. for Naval Flight School in 1965. 1962 - 1963 we lived in a 1 BR middle unit but with Kenneth on the way, moved into 2 BR end unit (the whole lower section of tan stucco). The window on left was "Bobby's" BR, the small window the bathroom (one night saw some pervert peeking in, freaked me out!), the right side window was kitchen. Window on right side of building was dinning area and the other one the living room. Our bedroom was behind the living room. The apartment house was owned by a professor friend of Dad Schrupp.  We must have moved in abt Feb 1962, our first place was up on El Cajon Blvd - kinda tiny.
