Chatfield Family Genealogy - From Sussex to the World
Family News
I recently received the sad news of the passing of Beryl Pauline Taylor (nee Barnard, born 1913) who died on 7 September 2009. I can only remember meeting her once at her home, I have a memory of a mountain of food on the dining table and playing poker for pennies with Dad and other family members before returning to Cornwall on the sleeper train. R.I.P.
Also recently passed away is Janet Clare Foley (nee Day, born 1925). She died on 8 October 2009. R.I.P
About this site
For 20 years I have had a photo of my Great-Great Grandmother Emily Jane Strange that my Dad, Colin Chatfield, gave me and on the back of that was a list of her decendents with a few ancestors. I started with that, added and corrected the information on there and then expanded my search on the internet.
I have had a major injection of information added thanks to my Dad who has been able to add masses of information to the site. The Chatfields on this site now begins with Thomas Chatfield who was born in about 1446 in Bedyles, Ditchling and is my 14 x Great-Grandfather
This will always be a ongoing project what with people being born, getting married and passing away. If you can add information like that to this site I will be most pleased to receive documentary evidence. Please don't send original copies of certificates for people past or present as I would hate to be responsible for the loss of these most important documents, a scanned copy will do very nicely.
The photo above is a copy of a copy of a copy hense the very dark background. It shows my Great-Grandmother Marie Pauline Bird with her three children. The girl on the left is my Grandmother Marjorie Bird, the others are her brother Rowland and sister Joan.
Majorie died on 7 July 2005, I sat with her the evening before but had to leave to return to Yorkshire. I only ever remember meeting Marie once, that was just before her 90th birthday, she died not long after.
The photo was taken during the first world war, possibly no later than 1916. You will notice that my Great-Grandfather, Ralph Frederick Henry Suhr, is not in the photo, this is probably because he was having a four year holiday on the Isle of Man at the expense of His Majesty's Government because he was a German national (comment about the King being german deleted as being in bad taste)
