Charles Jerome DRAPER was born in April 1850 in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. (son of Ari Draper and Cynthia Bender). He died on Jan 12 1933 in Prongua, Saskatchewan. He was a Great Grandson of Boston Draper.

Charles was married first to Mary B. Trumble and resided in Oswego NY.

Harriet Francelia Carpenter, (daughter of Reuben S. CARPENTER and Hannah C. PENNOCK)  was born February 5, 1852, in Chittenango, Madison County, New York  Charles Jerome was the cousin of George Petierse Bender who married Clara Aldora, Harriet's sister. Harriet was first married to David Draper, Charles brother and resided in Oswego NY. (Photo at left with son Bert)

Charles and Harriet are buried in the Prongua, Saskatchewan, Eagle Hills cemetery.

After leaving New York in Nov 1878, they went to Canada where they are found in the 1881 census near Sidney Ontario. Their first son Bert was born near there on July 2, 1879. They headed west to Toledo, Ohio where their second son Elmer was born in 1882. They then resided at Phillips, Wisconsin where their daughter Edna was born in 1887. About 1892 they moved to Oconto, Nebraska, where son, Cloyde, was born in 1895. They finally decided to move to the Battleford,  Saskatchewan area. They traveled by covered wagon from Oconto, Nebraska in 1902 to Saskatchewan.

The journey took about three months. They brought three of their four children with them - Ernest, Edna, and Cloyde. Bert, their oldest son had married before the family moved to Canada and stayed in Nebraska. Later Bert and his wife Laura moved to California where they resided until Bert's death at the age of ninety-seven, November 28, 1974 and Laura at 101 in 1984 in the city of Riverside. Charles and Harriet's son, Elmer died in infancy.

The Drapers rented the Dick Laurie farm south-east of the barracks in Battleford, before homesteading in the Cleveland School District in 1908. Charles sowed wheat by hand right into the prairie grass and then ploughed it under. The crop that year yielded forty bushels to the acre and as there were no elevators at that time. They put the wheat in bags, weighed it and took it to Battleford by team and wagon and sold it to Prince's for sixty cents a bushel. They ploughed with three horses and a walking plough and then walked behind harrows in dust and heat to work the land.

In about 1911, the Drapers moved to a quarter section opposite the Cleveland School. Ernest and Edna had attended school in Nebraska but only Cloyde attended Cleveland School after it was built. The family continued to reside at this location, Charles passing away January 12, 1933 and Harriet, March 20, 1936.
