Chas. Draper Passes Away
Came Here Thirty Years Ago
Mr. Charles Draper, who lived a mile west of Cleveland School, died yesterday morning, aged 84
years.
Mr. Draper arrived in Battleford overland from Nebraska in the early spring of 1903 and rented
and cropped the R. C. Laurie farm while looking for a homestead. He located first near the foot of
the Truscott hill. Later on he sold out and went to British Columbia but eventually returned and
settled not far from his original homestead.
The deceased was an enthusiast in gardening and horticulture and was always famed for the
quality of his grain.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, at home, Cloyde and Ernest, one son in British Columbia
and one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Delong, of Prongua.
The internment will be in Prongua cemetery to-morrow (Sunday) afternoon.
Note:
1. His widow was: Harriet Francelia (Carpenter) Draper.
2. He arrived in Battleford in 1902 not 1903.
3. There was not a son in British Columbia at the time.
Charles was never in BC as far as I know (KenW).
4. His sons Cloyde and Ernie went to BC in about 1919 looking
for land.
5. Cloyde moved to BC about 1940.
