12. Abraham FRIESEN was born on Aug 13 1816 in Prussia. He died on Apr
17 1871.
(A100 Bergthal Gemeinde Buch (Page 47)) - In 1818 his parents Abram and Anna (Dueck) Friesen along with Grandfather Martin Dueck (Dyck) emigrated to Pastwa, Molotschna Colony in
Russia. After his father died in 1825 he was fostered to his aunt in Friedensdorf. He moved with his foster parents, the Peter Friesens, to Neider-Chortitza in the Chortitza Colony.
In 1835 Abraham was baptized and received into the Chortitza Gemeinde (church) by Bishop Jacob Dueck (Dyck). On December 8, 1838, he and Katharina Schwartz were married by Bishop
David Epp.
After a year they settled in Blumengard, Chortitza Colony. In 1843 he moved with his family to the Bergthal Colony where he taught in the village of Schoenfeld.
Called to the ministry in the Bergthal Gemeinde on Mar 10, 1849. He served his congregation for 22 years until his death.
His widow Katharina emigrated with her family to Canada and arrived in Quebec City on July 1, 1875 aboard the S.S. Moravian and settled in Strassberg Manitoba.
She died in Sommerfeld near Altona Manitoba possibly at the home of her son Abraham.
