Abraham and Susana Braun

3. Abraham Warkentin was born on 8 May 1832. He was brought to the Bergthal Colony from Molotschna, by his wife Susana Braun in the 1850's. Susanna was the daughter of Jacob Braun (Aug 9, 1791 - Dec 15, 1868) one of the early leaders of the Bergthal Colony. Abraham operated a grist mill.

KG folk historian Peter Isaac wrote "Both his ears are said to have been ground off in a grist mill. It would not have seemed so strange to have one ear ground off, but both? I came to know one of his sons (believed to be Jacob) in Reinfeld Manitoba during the early years. In later life he was a teacher

He was married to Susanna Braun (daughter of Aeltester Jacob Braun and Susanna Leycke) on 13 Oct 1853. Susanna Braun was born on 14 Mar 1828. She was baptised on 26 May 1846. She was a widow, being formerly married to Dirk Wins.

Abraham Warkentin and Susanna Braun were parents of the following children:

+7 ii. Jacob Warkentin. born in 1857. emigrated to Canada in 1875.
+8 iii. Johann Warkentin.
9 iv. Nikolay Warkentin was born on 26 Aug 1861. He died on 17 Jul 1862.
+10 v. Peter Warkentin.
11 vi. Gerhard Warkentin was born on 30 May 1865. He died on 2 Mar 1866.
+12 vii. Heinrich Warkentin.
13 viii. Cornelius (Nals) Warkentin was born on 15 Dec 1873.
+14 ix. Nikolai Warkentin.
