The Pope family's connection to Winkleigh,
who
lived there in the 1650's.
In the 1850-1860's several of John Pope and Elizabeth Crocker's son changed their's, their wives and childrens
family name from Pope to their mother Elizabeth's family name Crocker. The
reason behind this change isn't known and none of those who changed to Crocker
appear to have reverted back to Pope.
