FORMER ARMY 
CAPTAIN BURIED
APRIL 3.

Arbie Spears, 47, former U. S. Army captain, died March
31 in a veterans’ hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, where he
was admitted on December 4, 1942.

Mr. Spears was the son of Julius Spears of River, Ky.

A veteran of World War I, He was wounded while fighting
for the Meuse-Argonne Forest Campaign, and he failed to
recover from wounds received in this campaign.

After receiving an honorable discharge on April 14, 1919,
he was employed at Cleveland, Ohio, for a number of
years, but ill health forced him to give up working
entirely.

Mr. Spears was a member of the Masonic Order, Lodge No.
689 of Cleveland, Ohio, where he remained a faithful
member until his death.

Besides his aged father, he is survived by three nephews
and one niece.

His mother, Lorena Preston Spears, one brother and one
sister have preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held April 3 at 2 p. m. at the home
of his father by Rev. Leonard Walters.  Final rites were
conducted by members of the F. & A. M. Masonic Lodge of
Paintsville.

Burial was made in the family cemetery at River.
