LLOYD D. PRESTON
Lloyd Deacle Preston, 31, Succumbs To Hunting Accident In Wolfe
People of Paintsville were shocked late Sunday afternoon when the news was received that Lloyd Deacle Preston had been killed in a hunting accident in Wolf County. The accident took place late in the afternoon when the hunting party consisting of Mr. Preston, Charles Wells of Paintsville, and a man by the name of Puckett were returning to the home of the latter.
According to the best information available an automatic shotgun in the hands of Puckett was accidently discharged, the charge from the gun taking effect in Preston's thigh. The shot severed an artery and because of the shot being so high up a tournoquet could not be applied and the victim died from loss of blood before reaching medical aid. The accident took place in the rural section of Wolfe county 18 miles from Hazel Green. Preston died before reaching Hazel Green. Preston and Wells were first cousins.
Preston was employed as a truck driver by the Big Sandy Hardware Company.
He was a son of McClellan Preston. His mother, Mrs. Vina (Ward) Preston, died a few years ago. He was born in Johnson County March 5, 1909, and had spent his life here. He was past 31 years of age.
Besides his father he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn (Perkins) Preston, two sisters Mrs. Madison Smith, Ashland, Ky., and Mrs. William Fultz, Greenup, Ky., in addition to numerous other relatives scattered throughout the county.
Funeral services were conducted from the home in Bridgford by Rev. Guy Coffman, of the Mayo Memorial Church, Tuesday afternoon, December 24.
Burial was made in the Wells Cemetery in Bridgford.
The undertaking department of the Paintsville Furniture Department had charge.
