Tom Butcher, 70,
Retired Miner,
Passes Friday

Tom Butcher, 70, retired miner of Williamsport, died in a
local hospital at 4:40 p.m., Friday, January 18, following a
stroke.

A lifelong resident of that section, he was born March 10,
1886, the son of the late Mark and Jemimah Meek Butcher.

He had been a member of the United Baptist Church for twenty
years and was also a member of UMWA.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Starlie Meek Butcher, and
nine children; six sons, Andrew, Delbarton, W. Va., Charlie,
Williamsport, Raymond and Drexel, both of Salyersville,
Haskel, Sioux Falls, S. D., Kenneth Columbus, Ohio, Frank
Marion, Meally; three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Preston,
Williamsport, Mrs. Ralph Helton, Beattyville, W. Va., Mrs.
Daphine Daniel, Columbus, Ohio.

Also surviving are four brothers, Garfield, Jim, Lee and
Son, all of White House; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Grindstone,
Bluefield, W. Va.; thirty-six grandchildren and seven great-
grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.,
January 22, at the Old Friendship United Baptist Church with
Leonard Walters, Elzie Banks, and Nim Sturgill officiating.

Burial was in the Tom Butcher Cemetery under the direction
of the Preston Funeral Home.
