CLARA BOYD
1890-1946
Mrs. G. V. Boyd Dies
At Home Wednesday
Mrs. Clara Nelson Boyd, 56, wife of G. V. Boyd, well know employee of
the C and O railroad, died Wednesday, October 2, 1946, at her home on
Short Street following an illness of many years.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, October 4, 1946, at 2
o’clock at the Mayo Memorial Methodist Church and interment will be
in the Mayo cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd was born May 26, 1890, in Audubon County, Iowa, a daughter
of Christopher and Mary Christen Nelson. She was married Feb. 1,
1912, and moved with her husband to Kentucky in October 1915. She
had been a resident of this city since that time and has many friends
throughout this area who were grieved at the news of her passing. She
was a faithful Christian as long as her health permitted, was a kind
and loving wife and mother and her death has created a vacuum in her
home, her community, and her church which will be hard to fill.
Mrs. Boyd had a son, Charles Seldon Boyd, who was killed in action
with the Navy March 27, 1942.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, William S. “Bucky”
Boyd, of Paintsville; and Donald Stewart Boyd, of San Diego, Calif.,
where he is stationed with the Navy; a daughter, Mrs. Ann Boyd
Steward, of Paintsville; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Clark and Mrs. Al
Waterburry, both of Ukiah, Calif., and three grandchildren.
