County Woman Passes Thursday
Rites Held Saturday For Mrs. Mary E. Ward
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ward, 78, a resident of River, Ky., for the
past 62 years died in a local hospital Thursday morning following
an illness of two weeks.
The daughter of the late Kelire and Lou Harmon Harris, she was
born December 25, 1876, at Lancer, Ky. She was a member of the
United Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death in 1918 by her husband, Elliott Ward.
Surviving are two sons, Forrest and Ernest Ward, both of River,
two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Mae Layne, Betsy Layne, and Mrs.
Virginia Kendrick, Janey, Virginia, and one brother, John Harris,
Lancer.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the home with Winfred Meek
and Cully Sparks as officiating ministers.
Burial was made in the family cemetery at River under the
direction of the Preston Funeral Home.
