RETIRED FARMER, DIES DECEMBER 9

Prominent Citizen Of River Vicinity Buried Tuesday

Funeral services for William J. Walters, 80, retired farmer of
River, Kentucky, were held at the Jones and Preston Funeral Home
at one o'clock Tuesday.

Mr. Walters died at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, December 9, at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Ruth Burke, in Ashland afer an illness of ten
months.

One of the county's most respected citizens, and a member of a
large and prominent family, he was a son of the late John C. and
Mary Arrowood Walters. He was born September 24, 1876.

He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and had been a
member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years.

Surviving besides his daughter, are two brothers, Edford L.
Walters of Louisville, and George Walters, Shoals, W. Va., one
sister, Mrs. Letha Steele Clark of Betsy Layne, three
grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by the Reverend M.R. Thomason,
pastor of the First Baptist Church of Paintsville, and Masonic
rites were held at the graveside.

Burial was made in the family cemetery at Bobs Branch under the
direction of the Jones and Preston Funeral Home.
