RETIRED FARMER, DIES AT RIVER
John C. Gambill, 82, well-known farmer of River, died at his home
at 9:25 Tuesday, November 12, following a brief illness.
The son of William Henry and Alafair Ward Gambill, he was born in
Lawrence County, June 7, 1875.
He had made his home at River for the past seventy years and was a
member of the United Baptist Church.
His wife, Elizabeth Harris Gambill preceded him in death April 25,
1953.
Surviving are seven children: three sons, Harry Gambill,
Lancaster, Ohio, Harmon Gambill and John C. Gambill, Jr., both of
River; four daughters, Mrs. Ida Mae Wigglesworth, Pikeville, Mrs
Herschel Spears, Mrs. Mildred Sturgill, both of Ironton, Ohio;
Mrs. Tommy Roberts, city. A sister, Mrs Sallie Perry of
Huntington, W. Va., also survives.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, at 10:00 a.m., from the
River United Baptist Church with Cully Sparks, Florida Lyon and
Germ Walters as officiating ministers.
Burial was in the family cemetery at River.
