Accident Fatal to Freddie Ward, Former Resident
Freddie Ward, 18, former resident of River, Ky., died June
13, of a fractured skull in an accident at Barksdale Air
Force Base, Louisiana.
According to reports received here, young Ward who was
working on the engine of a plane dropped a screwdriver and
as he bent over to recover it fell on his head on a concrete
runway.
The son of Fred and Mable Walters Ward of Welch, W. Va., he
was born September 23, 1937, at Freeburn, Ky. He had been a
member of the Air Force for two years.
Surviving besides the parents are four brothers, Johnny
Earl, Roma Jay, Thomas Jarrell and James Allen, all at home,
and four sisters, Mrs. Clyde Sheppard, Honeybrook,
Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth Ann, Maxie Louise and Virginia
Sue at home.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home of
Forest Preston at River with Cully Sparks as officiating
minister.
Burial was made in the Ward Cemetery at River under the
direction of the Preston Funeral Home.
