Dewey Tackett, 43, Van Lear, died in a local hospital
Friday following an illness of several weeks.

The son of Sanford and Dora Bayes Tackett, he was born
at Staffordsville, August 23, 1909.  He was a member
of the United Mine Workers of America and the F. O. E.
Lodge.  A miner by occupation, he was employed by
Island Creek Coal Company, Ragland, W. Va. prior to
his illness and death.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Jaynes Tackett, one
son, Earl Edward Tackett, at home, one step-son, Jack
Jaynes, city, and three step-daughters, Mrs. Russell
Hanshaw, Detroit, Mich, Mrs. L. B. Bradley, city, and
Mrs. Richard Hughes, city.

Other survivors include the following brothers and
sisters:  Sherman and Herschell Tackett, both of
Staffordsville, Harvey Tackett, Thelka, Jesse Tackett,
city, Mrs. O. T. Brown, Staffordsville,Mrs. Thomas
Conley, Flat Gap and Mrs. W. H. Mckenzie, city.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the
United Baptist Church at Staffordsville, with the
Revs. Scott Castle and Lonza Reed officiating.  Music
was by the Thomas Creek Quartet.

Interment was made in the Jaynes Cemetery at
Staffordsville under the direction of the Paintsville
funeral Home.
