DOROTHY LEE STURGILL 1911-1963 Dorothy Sturgill Rites Today At First Methodist Mrs. Dorothy Lee Spears Sturgill, 51, resident of Portage, Indiana, and formerly of this city, died in a hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana, Sunday, August 25 following an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late John L. and Dora Stafford Spears and a granddaughter of the late Hamilton and Judith Ward Spears and of the late Frances Marion and Marietta Lavendar Stafford, both prominent families of the county. She received her education in the Paintsville City Schools and was a member of the First Methodist Church of this city before moving to Portage three years ago, where her membership was in the McCool Methodist Church. She was a former employee of the Federal Government, serving in the Welfare Agency, the Postal Department and the Employment Office in both levels of Federal and State. She was preceded in death by two sons, David Lee and John Harris. Surviving are her husband, Glen J. Sturgill; a son, Daniel Gerald, and a daughter, Marietta, both at home; two other daughters, Mrs. Fred Colvin, Decatur, Illinois; Mrs. Daniel Caudill, Moline, Illinois; a brother, John L. Spears of this city; a sister, Mrs. Edna May Hiber, Bremerton, Washington. She was a niece of Miss May Stafford, Mrs. F. F. Smith and DeWitt T. Stafford all of this city. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., today at the First Methodist Church with the pastor, the Reverend Robert Hart officiating. Pallbearers were Leroy Slone, Deward Kazee, Ed Tyler, Burlin Griffith, Millard Vance, Fred White, G. E. Pack, Sr., and Winifred Bailey. Burial was in the Stafford Cemetery.
