BERNARD HAMPTON Bernard Hampton was born at Thealka, KY on Sept 5, 1912 and departed this life on August 30, 1945 being at the age of 32 years 11 months and 24 days. He was the son of Harry and Virgie Young Hampton, now living in the vicinity of Wittensville, KY. He was converted and baptized and became a member of the Old Union Church of united Baptist at Staffordsville, KY on the 11th day of March, 1934 living a faithful christian life until death. On Sept 19, 1936, he was united in marriage to Belva L. Tackett daughter of Floyd and Bertha Caudill Tackett and leaves to mourn one daughter, Boneva Joy and on son, William Lowell and a compainion, Belva. He is also survived by his father and mother, five brothers and six sisters. He was well liked by all who knew him and was considered by many to be one of the most devoted husbands known to them. Paintsville Herald Thursday September 20, 1945 =============================================== ELECTRIC SHOCK FATAL TO MAN MOVED TO DAYTON, OH WITH FAMILY IN 1941 Bernard Hampton, 32 native of Johnson Co. died at Dayton, OH on August 30 from the effects of an electric shock received while wiring a production machine at the Frigidaire plant there. Hampton is said to have disconnected the switch before beginning his work, in some manner the switch became closed and he received 440 volts, when he picked up the bare ends of wire used to connect the machine. He had moved to Dayton with his family in 1941 and had been employed at the Frigidaire plant since September 1943. Surviving are his widow and two children, Boneva Joy age 7 and William Lowell age 2, also his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Harry Hampton of Wittensville, six brothers and five sisters. Funeral services were held on September 1st at Old Union Church at Staffordsville of which he was a member. Rev. W. H. McKenzie and Lonza Reed officiating. Burial was made at the Mouth of Big Mud Lick by the Jones Funeral Home.
