Plina Griffith Dies Suddenly of Heart Attack

Mrs. Plina Jaynes Griffith, 62, resident of this city, died in a
local hospital at 10:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, the victim of a
sudden heart attack. The fatal seizure occurred as Mrs. Griffith
was walking near the Sipp Theatre on Main Street.

The daughter of the late John and Cora Blanton Jaynes, she was
born in this county April 19, 1901. She resided at West Third
Street and was a member of the United Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Chester Griffith; a son, Wayne
Griffith of this city; a daughter, Mrs. Beulah Williams of this
city; two brothers, Frank and Jesse Jaynes, Staffordsville; four
sisters, Mrs. Everett Blanton and Mrs. Paris Blevins both of
Staffordsville; Mrs. Amos Blanton, Jackson, Ohio; Mrs. Grant
Caudill, Cable, Ohio.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the
Third Street Freewill Baptist Church with J.W. Smith, Claude
Preston, Scott Castle, and Bruce Daniel. Music was by the
Staffordsville Singers.

Burial was in the Jaynes Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Mrs. Plina Jaynes Griffith, 62, wife of Chester Griffith of this
city, died Wednesday, March 27, at the New Hospital following a
heart attack, which occurred on Main Street, a few minutes
earlier. She had been in ill health for sometime, but had
continued with her usual activities, and her, unexpected death
shocked and saddened the people of the city and county.

Born at Mine Fork, Ky., April 19, 1900 a daughter of the late
Johnny and Cora Jaynes, she was a member of a well-known Johnson
County family and had lived most of her life in Paintsville.

She was married to Chester Griffith, February 7, 1920, at
Paintsville. She had been a member of the United Baptist Church
at State Road Fork for thirty-one years.

Not only was her death a loss to her family, but to her neighbors
and acquaintances who lost a friend. The many friends who cared
and the flora offerings were eloquent tributes to a loved on, who
beauty of spirit was reflected in the quiet radiance of her
personality and her friendships.

Survivors include besides her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Bert
Williams, Paintsville; one son, Wayne Griffith, Paintsville; four
sisters, Mrs. Amos Blanton, Jackson, Ohio; Mrs. Everett Blanton,
Staffordsville; Mrs. Grand Caudill, Cable Ohio; Mrs. Paris
Blevins, Paintsville; two brothers, Jessie Jaynes, Turner Branch;
Frank Jaynes, Staffordsville. Also surviving are seven
grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

Active pall bears were Kenneth O’Bryan, Jack Jaynes, Paul Raymond
Tackett, Andy Adams, John Sawyer, and Ford Blevins.

Burial was in the Jaynes Cemetery at Big Mud Lick under the
direction of the Jones and Preston Funeral Home.
