ARBIE DANIEL 1924-1959 FUNERAL SERVICES AT RUSH CHURCH FOR ARBIE DANIEL A Nippa man, one of the county’s most decorated heroes of World War II, died Tuesday in Floyd County when he was struck by a falling tree. Arbie Daniel, 35, died instantly about 2:00 P.M. while working for the Roy Rice Lumber Company. He, with Rice and several others, had cut down a tree, about 4 feet in diameter. The top of the tree lodged on the top of another, causing the trunk to swing uphill and strike the victim. He died of a crushed chest, broken neck, and broken back. He was wounded on November 20, 1944, during World War II while serving in Germany. He was awarded medals for battle campaigns in Africa, Italy, France and Germany and held the decorations of five Bronze Stars, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He was born May 4, 1924, a son of Frank Daniel and the late Mahala Scarberry Daniel of Nippa. Mr. Daniel was married on March 9, 1946, in Paintsville. Surviving besides his father are his wife, Hellen Pulley Daniel; two sons, Danny Daniel and Tommie Daniel; two daughters, Judy Daniel and Jewell Daniel, all at home; one brother, Wilbur Daniel of Nippa, and four sisters, Alice Music, Mrs. Angie Preston, and Reashal Richmond, Springfield, Ohio, and Myrtle Spradlin of Nippa. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. today at the Mouth of rush Free Will Baptist church. Officiating ministers were the Rev. Claude Preston and Rev. Millard Van Hoose. Graveside rites were conducted by the Paintsville Chapter Disabled Veterans of America. Burial was in the Sycamore Cemetery. PAINTSVILLE HERALD WEDNESDAY July 22, 1959
