OPAL RUTH CONLEY
1928-1960

Mrs. Opal Ruth Conley, 32 year old Van Lear resident and mother of
eight children, died Saturday in Paintsville General Hospital of
injuries sustained July 5 1960, in an auto mishap near her home.

Mrs. Conley died of a fractured skull, according to State Police
reports.

State Trooper Jack Music said Robert A. Jennings, 17, also of Van Lear,
was charged with reckless driving on the scene after his car rounded a
treacherous curve at apparently a high rate of speed and crashed into
the Conley car, which was traveling east.

Jennings, whose brother Douglas, 23 was killed May 13 in an auto
accident near Marion, Ind., will be tried Monday of charges of reckless
driving, speeding and voluntary manslaughter according to County Judge
Bill Ward.

Survivors are Mrs. Conley’s husband, Fred Conley, her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Jessie Jaynes, three sons, James, Eugene and Richard; five
daughters, Judy, Lena, Susan, Peggy Lou and Mary Lynn; one brother,
Melvin Jaynes, Winchester; and two sisters, Lillie Mahan, Wittensville
and Pauline Adams, Paintsville. All eight of the Conley children are
at home, the youngest 16 months and the oldest 16 years.

Mrs. Conley was born at White House on June 17, 1928 and was a life
long resident of the county.

She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 18 at the Staffordsville
Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Scott Castle, Lonza Reed and
Bruce Daniel officiating.

Music was by the Staffordsville Quartet.

Burial followed in the Jayne Cemetery.
