He was descended from William on 2 lines, via both parents, and Marwas the granddaughter of William's brother Thomas, so this marriage was a marriage of cousins. They had 12 children;

Known as John Flett of Nisthouse, and was mentioned in the Sasine of 4/7/1738 (RS 45/9/1 pp 163-164) as being the only lawful son of Thomas, and Marjory Gray was his mother. He was also mentioned in the Sasina of 8/1/1741 (RS 45/9/1, p267) concerndrew's land at Costay in Evie. He died about 1774, age unknown.
He married Margaret Smith at Stenness in 1738, or at Firth and Stenness, 1739. and their births were noted on the marriage certificate of 1738 as being 1713 and 1717 respectively. Their children were William, my ancestor,

He married Elspeth Moar 2 Dec 1783, from Doverhouse, Birsay and they had 4 children, Elspeth died sometime before 1794 and George married Helen Flett, daughter of Thomas Flett and Marjorie Flett, bothm are descendants of William in Pow. Helen was born 1773 in Furso, Harray, and died abt 1854 in Harray. They had 6 children

Magnus was the 4th known son of Thomas Flett, cooper, Bought two-penny land called Furso in Netherbrough from Edward Clouston of Stromness, in 1753. Furso had previously been in Flett hands as Robert of Bea's uncle was Robert of Furso. Magnus was m twice, first to Margaret Harvey, the widow of John Flett in Conifer, who was the son of Alexander, and secondly to Christian Matches. He was mentioned in a number of Sassines re lands in Gorm and Furso

No record on the IGI of marriage to Margaret Harvey, 1700 to 1780, or of the birth dates of Magnus, or the sons, Thomas and John. There is a Margaret Harvey born 8 Mar 1731 in Stromness, daughter of William Harvey and Marg Mowat.
Their is a marriage recorded on the IGI of Magnus Flett, born about 1770, Of Harray, who married a Christine Matches, born about 1774 of Harray, on 14 Jan 1795, which is too late, and a Magnus Flet, born about 1727, of Stromness, who married a ChriFlett (not Matches), born about 1731 of Stromness. They have 7 children listed from 1753 to 1765, all christened in Stromness. The age is a good choice, but no mention of a son Thomas, or of a marriage date.
If Thomas was the son of Margaret Harvey, born in 1731, and if he was born prior to Tom taking a second wife before 1753, it means that Thomas would have been born cirsa 1750, and that this once divorced woman died or was divorced again very soon aCould be! John's father was Thomas Flett of Curcabreck in Netherbough,ater Nisthouse in Mirbister, and his wife was Marjory Gray. Thomas was also a descendant of Robert of Bea, so more cousins!
