Australian Vital Records - no trace of Penuel.

Penuel married William Buchanan and lived at 17 Barclay Street, Port
Fairy, Victoria, 3284. They did not have any children.
Penuel was born exactly twelve months to the day on the wedding of
Samuel and Isabella, on Valentine's Day, thus explaining her second name.
Penuel spent her early days around Glenore and taught Sunday School.
After the 1914-18 War she married a soldier settler to the district,
William Buchanan. Prior to the war Bill had no knowledge of farming and
may not have been well suited to the land. They sold up and had a mixed
business in the vicinity of the Nepean Peninsula (not sure where).
Later Penuel and Bill settled at Drouin when Bill became a ranger for the
Water Trust. Penny was deeply involved with either Scouts or Girl
Guides, or both?
Whilst at Drouin the Buchanan's raised two Aboriginal children. The boy
they raised from 4 - 13 years of age was Lionel Rose who later won the
World's Bantam weight crown. In his book later in life Lionel
acknowledged that he owed much to the Buchanan's.
On Bill's retirement they first moved to Mildura where they found the
heat too much. They then retired to Port Fairy where they both lived out
their days.
Penny was known to almost everyone at Port Fairy where she endeared
herself to all who knew her. To all her neices and nephews and to all that
knew her she was remembered as the "most loving little lady you could
wish to meet".
On her passing a very large funeral party was present and she was buried
at Port Fairy along with her husband Bill. There were no children to the
marriage.

Samuel was the first Edelsten born in Australia after the family arrived
in 1854. He was born somewhere on the Avoca Goldfields only 13 days
after his sister Ann died (possibly as a result of a scalding water
accident). He may have spent his early life around St.Arnaud, maybe as a
butcher as this was the trade he later followed at Cope Cope.

Notice of St. Arnaud Road District - 1862. (See Edelsten Research File)

In 1873 he selected farmland near Cope Cope. (Allotment 1E) of 318
acres which he held until 1897 when he sold the property to the Pope
family. This is recorded in the Pope family history book. The home on the
property is still lived in today. This land is listed as 25681. Donald 1f,
318 acres. Recom'd. 19/6/1873. Title to Samuel Edelsten 4/7/1888.
He also had two housing allotments in Cope Cope in 1855, Allotments 7 &
8 where he operated a butcher shop, but for how many years is not
known.
In 1901 and 1902 Samuel and Isabella bought allotments 60, 61, 63
Parish of Carron, two miles south of the Cope Cope railway station, at
Massey where they farmed from 1901 until 1912, owned by Kath
Richardson, Yarpeet from 1916 - 1943 (60). This land was selected by
Eleanor Griffith, 1882. File 8679. Carran 60,63 - 300 acres, was
transferred to Samuel in 1901. See James Cannard file, he pegged in
1881, then to Eleanor Griffith 1882 by forfeiture. Crown Grant to S.
Edelsten, 9/3/1902.
They moved to Massey in about 1897. (Notes of Gordon Edelsten)
Carron 61, File 6307, 320 acres Selected by Henry Cannard 1880.
Crown Grant to S. Edelsten, 1/5/1901.
The family moved in 1912 to Galaquil to the land now owned by Alan
Smith. In 1913/14 they again moved to Rosebery West to where Alan
Chivell now lives. Early in 1915 George and Ted moved to Glenore and
sowed the crop on Allot 20 Nypo. The family moved to this home later in
1915 where Samuel and Isabella lived out their days.

Samuel arrived in Australia at Port Philip, in October, 1852 on the
"Cambria", out of Liverpool and stayed for a while then returned to
England to sell up his business and bring out his family, which he did,
arriving at Port Philip, for the second time on 9th June, 1854 on the
"Great Britain" out of Liverpool. He, and Elizabeth, brought with them
their children William and Ann. Samuel was 29 and Elizabeth 25, William
2, and Ann about 10 months. Ann died after arrival in Australia. They had
already lost two sons in England, John and George. Later they would lose
two more, Elizabeth and Thomas who both died in 1861 during an
influenza epidemic.
Their property at Carapooee was named Everton Valley after the country
around Liverpool where they had picnicked.
Obituary: 30 July, 1892: The news of the death of Mr. Samuel Joseph
Edelsten of Carapooee, which event took place at his residence on
Thursday, came with a shock to his many friends in St. Arnaud and its
surroundings. The deceased came out to Victoria in one of the earliest
ships conveying to our shores gold hunters, and after being successful
beyond expectations, he returned to Liverpool, sold the business in which
he had formerly been engaged, and which he had left in the hands of Mrs.
Edelsten to manage in his absence, and quickly returned to his old haunts
in Victoria, and was among the first in business in New Bendigo in the
year of 1855, amongst the few who determined to make this locality
their new home, and accordingly erected superior premises (for the
times) in Napier Street South, where he conducted a successful business
for several years. Later on Mr. Edelsten built the premises at Carapooee,
now occupied as the family home, and which in the good old coaching
days an extensive business was carried on as Hotel and General Store.
When this business began to slacken off, the deceased turned his
attention to the cultivation of soil and fruit raising, and took every
advantage of enlarging his estate, which at the time of his demise had
become one of the most compact homesteads and fruit appendages to be
found in the district, and altogether a very valuable property. Mr.
Edelsten, during his long residence in this part of Victoria, never took
any prominent part in politics or public matters, but as an industrious,
painstaking citizen and a developer of the virtues of the soil, he was
always looked upon as a model worker and careful to a degree and as a
colonist of over 40 years standing, it may be truly said that in all his
dealings he had acted up to the scriptural adage in multiplying and
replenishing the earth. He was the father of ten sons and four daughters,
seven former and two latter living, as well as his widow survive him.
The deceased was 67 years of age. He suffered a paralytic stroke some
two years ago, the effects of which he never properly recovered. On the
morning of his death he had been engaged in light work in the garden, and
not feeling well, he came into the house and asked Mrs. Edelsten for a
brandy and seated himself on the doorstep and instantly expired in the
presence of his wife and son, and thus ended the life of a most useful
colonist, a good citizen, kind father and affectionate husband. The
funeral will leave his late residence, Carapooee for the St. Arnaud
Cemetery at one o'clock today.
