CAMERON - DICKEY - STORY Families of GILES COUNTY, TENNESSEE    1850 - 1880
These three families all lived next door to each other in 1850 in Giles County, Tennessee.  If you follow them through the census records through 1880, some apparent family connections begin to appear.  Is there any more information out there somewhere regarding what is documented below?

Other relationships in these three families:

Elizabeth (wife of James Story) in Household #154 in 1850 is believed to be a CAMERON and sister to William Cameron SR of household #144 in 1850 – I have seen information from others regarding this but as yet have not seen the sources documenting this. Of other interests, note that according to the 1850 census both William and Elizabeth are age 36 ! They may have to be twins depending upon how close the dates are actually proven to be, census records are not accurate sources for real dates.

Household #152 and #144 connection in 1850

Benjamin Cameron is listed in the household of John and Sally Story #152. Ben is the son of William Cameron (household #144). Why is he living with the Story family? By 1880 Benjamin’s brother William Cameron Jr. ends up living in the same household with Sally Story. (see next paragraph) Either Sally is a CAMERON; or Ben and William’s mother Elizabeth Ann Cameron is a STORY! Which is it?

Further evidence leans towards Sally being a CAMERON. Her household in 1880 lists her as “grandmother” to the Head of Household Lossen Dickey. Also in that household is William Cameron Jr. who is listed as “cousin” to Lossen Dickey. That does not necessarily mean this next statement is true, but it is possible then that Sally would then also be grandmother of William Cameron Jr. However, her age does not make it possible for her to be the mother of either one of William Jr.’s parents.

Emerson and Dickey

How do these two names tie in ? See notes and questions in the charts above.

Is Daniel Cameron the link?

Are all these related to the common ancestor of Daniel Cameron? There are many messages on web forums out there that suggest that a Daniel Cameron of Giles County, Tennessee was the father of both Elizabeth (Cameron) Story and William Cameron Sr. as well as other children. These messages have Daniel in several locations besides just Giles County. I have yet to see any supportive evidence of who the parents of William and Elizabeth are. Daniel could very well be the father, but we need to see some sources. If there is such documentation, could Sally be another child of Daniel?
