Sweet Adelines and went to manycompetitions. She was very active in the Girl
Scouts for severalyears. She is survived by three children, Carolyn French and
husbandof Springfield, Mo., Kellie Muller and husband of Riva, Md. and
KevinShank of Springfield, Mo.; five grandchildren, Tonya Albert, Pa.,Kimberly
Weaver, Springfield, Mo., Christopher Mohn and Jeffrey Mohnof Maryland and
Jonathan Shank of Virginia; and fivegreat-grandchildren and many family and
friends. Funeral services willbe held in Greenlawn Funeral Home North on March
29, 2008, at 1 p.m.,with burial following in Monger Cemetery in Sparta.
Visitation will bein the funeral home on March 28, 2008, from 7 to 8 p.m.

(VIII) Willie Foster, son of William Otis, was born in Danby, Vermont,February
17, 1854. He attended the public schools of his native townand the Fort Edward
Institute at Fort Edward, New York. He worked onthe homestead during his
youth. When he came of age he left the farmto engage in business at Danby Four
Corners in 1875 and has continuedin business there to the present time. He was
appointed postmasterunder Postmaster General Jewell in 1874 and has held the
office eversince. For twenty-eight years he has been town clerk and
towntreasurer. He has large real estate interests and has charge ofseveral
large farms owned by others. He is a director of the MarbleCity Savings Bank
of Rutland. In politics he is a Republican, inreligion a Methodist.
He married (first) October 23, 1877, Jennie E. Vail, of Danby,Vermont,
daughter of Ira and Mary (Chase) Vail. His wife died June 11,1890. He married
(second) December 24, 1901, Mary E. Johnson, ofVergennes, Vermont, daughter of
Hiram C. and Cornelia E. (Curtis)Johnson, granddaughter of William H. and
Betsey Ketchum (Darling)Johnson, of Rome, New York. Children by first wife: 1.
RobertMoulthrop, born in Danby, Vermont, May 22, 1880; associated inbusiness
with his father under the firm name of W. F. Otis & Son;married, September 4,
1902, Ruth Palmer Marsh, of Clarendon, daughterof William and Jennie Croft
Marsh; children: Jennie Vail, born March18, 1908; Ruth Marsh, June 5, 1909. 2.
Edward William, born May 7,1886; is in the livery stable business at Danby;
married, June 24,1908, Nellie M. Collins, of Mount Tabor, Vermont, daughter of
Dwightand Flora (Winship) Collins; children: William Foster, born April
20,1909; Stella Flora, November 20, 1910. Child by second wife: 3.William
Foster, born August 3, 1902, died September 19, 1905.
According to a family Bible ROGERS and family tradition, the immigrantancestor
was Joseph Rogers, born about 1660, who came from Englandwith his wife about
1690. It is said that he had several brothers whoalso came, but the
genealogist of the Rogers family who investigatedall of the Rogers families,
did not succeed in establishingrelationship with other Rogers pioneers. Joseph
Rogers settled at
Salem, Massachusetts, but soon afterward joined the Port Royalexpedition and
was doubtless killed by the French or Indians, as hewas never heard from
afterward. He married Sarah Currier, and theironly child was posthumous
probably, as he was named, it is said, inhope of the father's safe return from
the war, Hope.

Downer's Mill Deli & Café has opened in Quechee Village next door tothe post
office in the site of the former Quechee Village Deli.Adjacent to the café is
Sam's Bakery, run by baker Sam Yahoub. As YouWish Catering operates out of the
café. Gayle Ottmann and her daughterJoi Purrell own the three-tiered
business. "We're partners," explainsOttmann. "She is the proprietor. It's a
family business." One of herother daughters, Joni Coburn, and her grandson
Dylan, work in thedeli/café.
Ottmann, executive director of the Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce,is also
the owner of the Ott-Dog, a snack bar near Quechee Gorge thatis approaching
its 28th season in the summer.
The new owners did a major renovation of the space, tearing out
walls,re-painting, relocating the bakery and re-doing floors.
The name Downer's Mill comes from the name of the historical millbuilding in
the village that is the modern day location of SimonPearce glassblowing studio
and restaurant. Steve Giroux of ThirdGeneration Design in Windsor scanned a
stereopticon image of Downer'sMill to create an impressive canvas sign
displayed in the café. Thehistorical theme is carried through in the menu
with signaturesandwiches named after historical figures such as a Mr. Tinkham
whoran the post office and J.C. Parker who owned the mill that was
onceDowner's.
Yahoub, well-known for his skills as a baker, arrives at 2:00 a.m. to3:00 a.m.
to prepare for the day. "He is there to greet everybody witha fresh cup of
coffee and baked goods at 6:30 in the morning," Ottmannsays. He makes
everything from muffins to scones and breakfastsandwiches. He also has a
specialty business. For example, he made 75pies for Thanksgiving and
gingerbread houses for Christmas. He alsomakes birthday cakes. In the deli,
the focus is fresh, homemade foodranging from a variety of salads, soups,
sandwiches, and dailyspecials. "We do our own breads," Ottmann notes. The deli
offersciabatta, a roll that is soft inside and crusty on the outside, aswell
as baguettes. There is seating for 20. The deli carries wine,beer, and a small
selection of groceries and dairy products. As YouWish Catering offers services
for small groups such as cocktailparties, meetings, and birthday parties.
Downer's Mill Deli & Café and Sam's Bakery are open Monday throughSaturday
from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, the bakery is open from6:30 a.m. to noon.

Richard "Dick" J. Ottmann
QUECHEE, Vt. - Richard "Dick" J. Ottmann died on August 31, 2003 atthe White
River Veterans Hospital after a battle with ill health aswell as a long and
courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 19, 1924, in Port Chester, New York, he was the oldestchild of
Louis J. and Mabel [Bakke] Ottmann. He attended LaSalleMilitary Academy and
graduated from Frederick E. Bellows High School,Mamaroneck, N. Y. He also
attended the University of Virginia aftermilitary service. While at Bellows
High School, he excelled infootball and ice hockey as well as track and
baseball.
He was married to Virginia Oehmsen and later divorced. On October 21,1978 he
married Gayle C. Purrell in Quechee.
He joined the Army in 1944, serving in the 64th Field Hospital inFrance, as a
medical aid man and athletic instructor for paralyzedsoldiers. After
discharge, he joined the family firm of General Sandand Stone, as vice
president, based in West Hartford, Conn. He workedthroughout New England in
real estate sales. In 1978, he joinedQuechee Lakes Corporation; opened the
Ott-Dog Snack Bar, at QuecheeGorge in 1979; and established Johnson and
Ottmann Real Estate inWoodstock, Vermont in 1981. He retired from real estate
in 1994.
He loved life to the fullest, enjoying a golf game, watching UVA’sfootball
games, sharing stories with friends and family, entertainingat his home on
Main Street, or scooping ice cream. Above all, hisgrandchildren and family
made his life complete.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle; his daughter, Heidi and husbandRobert
Larkin of Farmington, Conn.; two sons, Gary Ottmann of JerseyCity, N.J. and
Kurt Ottmann of Sandy, Ut.; three stepdaughters, Joiand husband Jon Soule of
Quechee, Jana and husband Bradford Swanton ofHarpswell, Me., and Joni and
husband George Colburn of Royalton; twobrothers, Norman Ottmann of Simsbury,
Conn., and Gordon Ottmann ofRocky Hill, Conn.; six grandchildren, Jason,
Erika, Erina, Colby,Dylan, and Marley; sister-in-law, Laurie and husband
Bernard LaBountyof Lunenburg, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a stepmother.
Calling hours were held on Sunday, September 7 at the Cabot FuneralHome in
Woodstock. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday,September 8, at Our
Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock,Vt. Burial followed at the
Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph.

2008, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. He was bornOctober 10, 1955 in
Wellsboro, PA, the son of Howard and ShirleySpencer Outman. He retired from
Corning Inc. after working for 33years. Paul graduated from Elkland High
School in 1973 and he was anavid fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 31
years, Mary AnnOutman; sons, Michael (Kimberly) Outman and sons, Jacob and
DevinOutman, Marine, IL; Todd (Brandy) Outman and daughter, Haley AnnOutman,
Little Marsh, PA; nephew, Matthew (Sherry) Fish and daughter,Andrea, Hanover,
PA; aunts, Verna Knickerbocker, Nelson, PA, ArleneSeamans, R.D., Knoxville,
PA; and several cousins. He was preceded indeath by his sister, Kathleen
Outman Fish and her son, Jason Fish. AMemorial Service will be conducted
Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at theElkland United Methodist Church, 120 North Buffalo
Street, Elkland,PA. Memorials may be made to the PKD Foundation in Paul's
