FORT WORTH - Earl E. Newman, founder of Newman Sand & Gravel Co., diedof a
heart attack Sunday at a Fort Worth hospital. He was 81.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home/Sylvania.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Newman was born in Fort Worth.
In 1948, he founded the Newman Sand & Gravel Co. He retired from thecompany in
1970.
Mr. Newman was a member of the Smithfield Masonic Lodge and hadreceived a
50-year pin from it.
He served for 17 years on the board of directors of Haltom StateBank.He was a
member of the Smithfield Church of Christ.

Hazel Louvinia SCHROEDER
1923 - 2014
  Hazel Louvinia Schroeder, age 91, of Round Rock, passed away Tuesday June
17, 2014. Hazel died peacefully at home with family by her side. She was the
daughter of Asa Lee Newman and Canzada Elizabeth Bryan Newman. She was born in
Thrall, Texas on February 6, 1923.
  Hazel is survived by her daughters, LaVerne Kirkpatrick and husband Tommy,
Shirley Inman and husband Sammie, Donna Ferrell and husband Larry, her son
Gary Louis Schroeder and wife Beth, nine grandchildren, and fourteen
great-grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by her husband Louis Alfred Schroeder, son Glenn
Alfred Schroeder, one sister, and five brothers.
  Hazel was a long time member of Palm Valley Lutheran Church in Round Rock.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends. A visitation will be held
Thursday, June 19, 2014, from 6-8 pm at Beck Funeral Home, 15709 Ranch Road
620, Austin, TX. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20, 2014, at 2 pm
at Beck Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.

lodge, and an active member of the Baptistchurch, serving his congregation as

AMOS A. NEWTON, farmer, P. O. Sharon Centre, was bom in Bainbridge,Chenango
Co., N.Y., April 16, 1822, a son of Marshall and Prudence(Aylesworth) Newton.
His paternal grandfather was Amasa Newton, anative of Vermont and a pioneer of
Chenango county, N.Y., and was ason of Thaddeus Newton, a soldier of the
Revolutionary war, also apioneer of Ohenango county. His maternal grandfather
was AndrewAylesworth, of French descent, also a pioneer of Chenango county,
N.Y.Amos A. Newton was reared in his native county and settled in
Sharontownship, Potter Co., Penn., in 1846; was for many years engaged inthe
lumber business, and was a member of the firm of Nichols, Stevens& Co., for
ten years. He settled on the farm he now occupies, in 1867,most of which he
cleared, and has made all improvements in buildings,etc. In 1850 he married
Dolly S., daughter of Isaac W. and Nancy(Colvin) Jones, who were among the
first settlers of Sharon township.They have five children, viz.: William E.,
Fred N., Jennie (Mrs.Arthur Cole), Jessie (Mrs. Charles H. Cole) and Kate. Mr.
Newton is aprominent farmer of Sharon township, and an enterprising citizen.

DONALD A. NEWTON.  Newport - Donald A. Newton, of Newport, died Thursday, June
6, of natural causes in a Spokane nursing home.  He was 70 years of age.
He was born on Nov. 4, 1920 to Charles C. Newton and Myrtle Belle (Gibler)
Newton in Huron, S.D.
Newton came to Newport 10 years ago from Coeur d'Alene.  He was a truck
driver.
He married Jessie Criswell in Newport in 1983.  She preceded him in death last
August.
Survivors include two sons, Stanley Newton of Dallas, N.C., and Charles Newton
of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Harland Newton, of Stewart, Fla.; four
grandchildren; and one great grandchild.  A brother preceded him in death in
1988.
Arrangements were made by Sherman and Knapp Funeral Home.  The body was
cremated.

Harlan L. Newton, 97, passed away on May 3, 2013 in Stuart, FL.
Born and raised in Huron, SD, he moved to Florida in 1953 and Stuart,FL in
1975.
He was a US Navy Veteran and had a Master's Degree in Engineering from
Chrysler Institute of Engineering, Detroit, MI.
Harlan was a Florida Licensed Contractor and, over a span of 52 years, left
his mark on Florida cemetery construction. He pioneered double depth lawn
crypt construction, and built hundreds of mausoleum buildings throughout the
entire state. Additionally, he served three,three year terms as a Director of
the Florida State Cemetery Association.
He was a devoted father and a wonderful man. Harlan will be greatly missed by
his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his son, John and his wife, Jean.
He is survived by his sons, Harlan (Francesa), Denny (Jan), Curtis and Philip;
daughter, Elaine Thompson (Mike); six grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. Harlan is also survived by his step-daughter,Susan Tate
(Robert), stepson, Lee Tetreault; three step-grandchildren and two step-great
grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on May 10, 2013 at 10:00am -12:00pm at Redeemer
Lutheran Church in Stuart, Florida.
Interment will follow at Fernhill Memorial Gardens in Stuart, FL.

of Torrie and Floris Nicholls.  She was graduated fromFordson High school,
Dearborn, in 1944.  Following her graduation, sheattended Mienzinger Art
School of Detroit for two years.
On April 7, 1951, she was married to Richard F. Peterson of Detroit,taking up
residence in Traverse City at that time.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Jan, five months old; herparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Torrie A. Nicholls of Detroit; her grandfather,Marvin D. Colvin, of
Sparta, Michigan; two aunts, Mrs. Leo Weeks ofChicago and Mrs. William Dixon
of Buckley.

county, died at her home in AuroraFriday morning. She had been seriously ill
almost from the time of herhusband's death, and was under the care of a
trained nurse most of thetime. She had been in poor health for many years.
Mrs. Kline wasnearly 72 years of age.     Funeral services were held at
theMethodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. W. L. Ruyle incharge.
Short services at the home preceded, Garl Worthington singinga solo,
accompanied by Mrs. Ivan Jones. Music at the church wasfurnished by a quartet
composed of Garl Worthington, I. M. Bengtson,Roy Westlake and Chester P. Burt
and by Mr. and Mrs. Harve Wood, whosang a duet. Both were accompanied by Mrs.
Jones. Interment was inAurora cemetery. Pall bearers were Ned Gunnerson,
Arnold Isaacson,George Funk, L. P. Swartzentruber, Dr. F. Paulsen and
FayDobbs.Following is the obituary that was read at the funeral.AdahBell
Nichols was born Nov. 9, 1857* at Picetanica [sic], Illinois.When two years of
age, her parents moved to Spring Grove, Wisconsin,where she grew to womanhood,
where she attended school.     Sheunited with the Methodist church at the
early age of fifteen years andremained a faithful, consistent member until the
end.     She wasmarried to David Lorenzo Kline, her schoolmate, on January 1,
1882. OnNovember 7th of the same year, she and her husband arrived inNebraska,
where they have lived. She lived through the hard pioneerdays cheerful and
happy and contented with a husband and children. Shewas a lover of home and a
true helpmate.     She was a member of theLadies of the Grand Army of the
Republic and served in all thedifferent offices except two. She was a member
of Gold Star mothersand their chaplain one year. She was state president of
the Ladies"G.A.R. organization in 1918, attending the national convention
atPortland, Oregon, August 16, 1918.     She was the fifth member tosign the
charter roll of the local American Legion Auxiliary and thefirst chaplain of
that organization and each year held an office,while she lived, in the
organization, the one most dear to her forwhat it represented for God and
country.     Her son, Roy, paid thesupreme sacrifice in the Argonne forest in
France. Mrs. Kline hasnever been well since the death of her only son. Three
years waitingfor the return of her son's remains to be sent home was a long
wearingwaiting and sapped her strength and health. Mrs. Kline has been
ill,never seeing a well day, although up and about the house.     Herhusband
passed away August of this year, a month and ten days ago.Her church and
Sunday school meant so much to her, but has beenunable for some time to
attend. In 1892, she was superintendent of theHampton M. E. Sunday school.    
She was a loving wife and mother.Mrs. Kline had many kind friends. She has
lived in Hamilton county 47years, and in Aurora 33 years.     She was the
mother of fourchildren, Edna Maude Lancaster, Roy Clifford Kline, died in
France,Claudie, who passed away in 1885, and Deliliah Bell Kline, who hasbeen
the devoted daughter in her mother's grief and her long sickness;three
grandchildren: Gladys Fay Lancaster, Ada Bell Lancaster, EleanorMarlene
Lancaster are left to mourn their loved mother [sic,grandmother].*Does not
agree with 1860 and 1870 census listings.Adah Bell got younger as she got
older.

ERASTUS H. NICHOLS, farmer, P.O. Turtle Point, was born in Halifax,Windham
Co., Vt., October 14, 1822, and is a son of Samuel and Abigail(Chase) Nichols,
who settled in Eldred, McKean Co., Penn., in 1830.Samuel Nichols, who was a
farmer by occupation, cleared and improvedthe farm now occupied by his son
Dana B., and died there. He had thefollowing named ten children: Lenora,
Huldah (Mrs. Edwin Warner),Erastus H., Lucina (Mrs. Charles Calkins), Edwin,
Wilbur, Adelia (Mrs.George Colvin), Permelia (Mrs. Frederick McClure),
Nathaniel and DanaB. Erastus H. Nichols was reared in Eldred from eight years
of age,and after reaching his majority worked by the month until he
wastwenty-six years old. He then engaged in farming in Eldred, and in1861
removed to Annin township, where he cleared and improved the farmhe now
occupies. In November, 1861, he enlisted in Company H,Fifty-Eighth Regiment,
P.V.I., was wounded at Drury Bluff, andhonorably discharged from the service
in December, 1864. He was twicemarried; his first wife was Lucinda P.,
daughter of Anson G. and MaryA. (Bowen) Moses, of Olean, N.Y., and by her had
two children: GeorgeS. and Lillian. His second wife was Mrs. Amelia M.
(Cooley) Smith, ofCuba, N.Y. Mr. Nichols is one of Annin township’s most
prominentcitizens. He is a member of the G.A.R.; politically he is
aRepublican.

OBITUARY:  "The Sun," [Aurora, Hamilton Co., NE], 4 Feb 1893, p. 5,col. 3:    
Mr. Asa Nichols, who resided near Hampton, died Jan. 27thult., in the 88th
year of his age. He was born in New York andemigrated to Illinois when he was
forty years old. In 1841 [sic, 1853]he married Rosella Miles [sic, Niles] and
was father of six children,one dying in infancy. The others, two sons and
three daughters areleft to mourn. He came to Nebraska ten years ago, since
which time hehas resided on his home place, where he died. His children
werepresent with him in his last illness, except one daughter, Mrs. H.
S.Smith, of David City, she being very sick and not expected to live, atthe
time of his death. Mr. Nichols was a sterling democrat and wasmuch
disappointed that he was unable to go to the polls last Novemberand record his
last vote for Grover Cleveland. The funeral serviceswere held at Stockham last
Sunday, and were largely attended.
