Jacob Sage, second son of Capt. Moses, also kept close to his father. His
name is in the Bennington Freeman list in 1804, and he signed as a witness to
some of this father's land deeds. He was excommunicated from the Shaftsbury
Church in 1808. He lived for awhile in Woodford, joining Bennington on the
east, and was sworn in as a Selectman in that town on March 29, 1809. He is
listed as a Grand Juryman in Woodfordon March 27, 1811. He had married in
Bennington, Dec. 20, 1799, Eleanor Colvin, daughter of Reuben and Sarah
(Matteson) Colvin, born in Bennington, October 24, 1779, died in Pomfred
township, New York, Aug. 8, 1863. Reuben Colvin, Sr. was a native of Rhode
Island, son of Benjamin and Eleanor (Burlingame) Colvin, who removed to
Hoosick Falls, and thence to Bennington about 1770. Benjamin died in
Kingsbury, New York. He and his wife, Eleanor, are buried in North Bennington
cemetery, also their son, Reuben, who died in Bennington, July 23, 1812.
Reuben's wife, Sarah, died in July, 1831, in Pomfred township, New York.
Jacob, with his family, followed his father to Chautauqua County, New York,
settling in Pomfred township, about 3 1/2 miles southwest of Fredonia, on the
road opened by the Holland Lad Company, later called Webster street. Here he
died Feb. 5, 1854, and is buried in the old cemetery nearby, his gravestone
one of the few of his family remaining.

Notes for William Rev SAMPSON-DAVIS

SOURCE: "The Journal" Lorton & Derwent Fells Local History Society.No. 45 -
February 2010
......................But the means to provide a lasting resolutionwas
provided by a third sister, Margaret Alexander Harbord, 1832-1900.In 1880, at
age 47, she married the Rev. William Sampson-Davis,1829-1910, who was the
Curate of Embleton and Lorton from 1875, andlater the vicar of both. It
appears that the three unmarried sisters, despite the principles and the best
endeavours of their mother andgrandmother, did not have the resources to
acquire the propertywithout at least one marriage.
