The Oldest Living Twins
The oldest twins now living in the United States are Mrs. LovicaMatteson and
Mrs. Sally Clark, born at Rutland, Vt in 1802 andconsequently eighty-nine
years of age at the present time. Theirparents, named Fisk, had twelve
children - five boys and seven girls -several of whom died, but none below the
age of eighty, while onelived to be ninety-seven. The father died at
ninety-five and Mrs.Fisk at ninety-two. Mrs. Matteson has attended to the
sick for fiftyyears and still ministers to the inflicted. She had five
children andlives with one of the surviving three at Angola, N.Y. Her memory
isremarkable and she has a wonderful stock of reminiscences. Mrs. Clarklives
with her children at Hamburg, N.Y., and she is hearty andvigorous. Living but
twenty miles apart, the sisters are oftentogether and they never fail to meet
on their birthday, which ispleasantly celebrated every year. The next oldest
living twins inthis country were born in Germany in 1804 and now reside in St.
Cloud,Minn.

According to "Fiske and Fisk Family. Being the Record of the Descendants of
Symond Fiske, Lord of the Manor . . .," by Frederick Clifton Piece [Press of
W. B. Conkey Company, Chicago, 1896], Benjamin Fiske, son of Benjamin Fiske
and Susannah Briggs, married Hannah Hammond 3 Dec 1758 in Scituate, RI. Four
children supposedly resulted from this union.
Serious Fiske/Fisk researchers have become aware of errors and omissions in
Pierce's work [see GenForum posting; URL below]. One such omission is the
death of Hannah Hammond within a year after this marriage; another is
Benjamin's second marriage.
According to Coventry, Kent Co., RI, marriage records: "Nov 15th AD1761 then
was married in Coventry Benjamin Fiske son of Mr. Benjamin Fiske to Valeriah
Colvin daughter of Mr. John Colvin according to the law of this Colony by me
Edw. Cafey Justice of the Peace."
It's obvious that Valeriah Colvin [aka Valleriah, per tombstone in Fisk
Cemetery, Danby], not Hannah, was the mother of Benjamin's known children:
Nancy [b. 1762], Reuben [b. 1765], Benoni [b. 1768] and Benjamin [b.
1770].__________
