Members of the Oden family moved from Fredericksburg, Maryland to Wayne Township, Monroe County, Ohio, later to Fulton County, Ohio.
In most cases, the dates and place names have been confirmed or estimated by reference to Census records, death certificates and tombstone inscriptions. The original parents, Thomas & Elizabeth Oden and Joseph & Elizabeth Ellis, are unsourced except that those names were presented by other peoples research.

ODEN DNA PROJECT:
I manage the Oden mail list and co-manage with Bill Coles the Oden yDNA project. We are extremely interested in the pedigree information you have posted on your website.
Oden is an extremely rare surname. To date, the Oden yDNA project has identified two genetically different families with this surname. Unfortunately, both families are first found in Maryland, one as early as 1752 and the other in 1810.
Do you have any male cousins with the Oden surname who would be willing to participate in the project? A candidate for testing must be a direct male line descendant of your earliest known Oden ancestor. He cannot have been adopted, or have a mis-attributed parentage in his line.
The two families we have identified, are descendants of Solomon Oden who first appears in the 1810 Loudoun County, Virginia census, and descendants of a Thomas Oden, believed to have been the son of Francis Oden and Elizabeth O'Caine of Charles County, Maryland. We have documentation placing this family in Maryland, but have been unable to find a test candidate with documentation going into Maryland who would be tested.
