BITUARIES
Fulton County, Ohio

Altha McGOWAN

Altha Miranda Salsbury, daughter of Daniel and Fannie Salsbury was born February 15, 1854 in DeKalb County, Indiana and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Howard Gamber, January 3, 1922. She was one of 12 children and is survived by three sisters and one brother.

December 27, 1874 she was married Wm. McGowan. They began housekeeping on a farm a ¾ miles west of Munson on what is known as the County Line road. They continued to reside there for a number of years, when by thrift, economy and hard work they were able to establish a permanent home on a farm in Franklin township, Fulton County, Ohio, where they resided until failing health forced them to give up farm activities. During this time five children were born, a son dying in infancy.

At an early age Mrs. McGowan confessed Christ and the fruits of her life are testimonies of the faithful self-sacrificing life which she lived. Feeling that every Christian needs a church home, she united with the M. E. church at Franklin and on account of the pleasant memories associated with this church and friends of this community, retained her membership until her death.

She was a devoted wife and mother, sacrificing many of the pleasures of her own life that her loved ones might be benefited. Her charming personality combined with her unselfish regard for others won for her many friends and the faculty of keeping these friends made for her a large circle of acquaintances. She was a member of the Ladies’ Aid Society of this place, a Pythian Sister of Fayette temple and member of the Woman’s Relief Corp.

About 18 years ago, she with her family came to Fayette to live. They settled in the family residence on East Main Street and although for years she has been a semi-invalid the devotion of her children made it possible for her to continue to live in her own home until a few months ago she was forced to give up and came to live with her daughter.

Although a great sufferer she never murmured and her friends were always met with a smile. Besides her husband and children, Mrs. John Gigax, Fannie, Charles and Mrs. Howard Gamber, she leaves five grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral service was held at the home Friday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. F. M. Money of West Unity.
